FAQs About O&M
O&M is proudly designed in Australia, with each product category manufactured by carefully selected specialists around the world. Our haircare and styling products are made in our solar-powered factory in Sydney, Australia.
Our colour range is designed in Australia and manufactured in Italy, home to some of the world's most respected colour cosmetic manufacturers. Our aerosols are made in Europe by leading aerosol specialists.
O&M (Original & Mineral) was founded by Jose Bryce Smith. Inspired by a firsthand understanding of how harsh chemical products were affecting hairdressers and their clients, Jose set out to create a better, cleaner alternative - and O&M was born. In 2010, following the success of the world’s first ammonia-free salon approach, O&M expanded into the haircare and styling range that exists today. O&M is widely credited as a pioneer of the ammonia-free professional colour movement in Australia.
CØR.color is designed in Australia and manufactured in Italy.

Yes - O&M is cruelty free. No animal testing is conducted on any O&M products. This is part of O&M's broader commitment to kind haircare - kind to clients, kind to colourists and kind to animals.

O&M's clean colour and haircare products are also vegan, containing no animal-derived ingredients.
Yes - O&M is an independent, female-founded brand created by Jose Bryce Smith. From its beginnings as a single ammonia-free salon in Australia — and the launch of the world’s first ammonia-free professional hair colour — to becoming a globally distributed professional haircare and colour brand, O&M has remained proudly independent.
That independence has allowed the brand to stay true to its founding vision: pioneering some of the cleanest, kindest professional hair colour and care formulations in the world, without compromise to its values, direction or approach to innovation
The Ø in CØR.color is a strikethrough symbol representing the harsh chemicals O&M has chosen to cancel out and exclude from its professional colour system.
Specifically, it symbolises the removal of ammonia, PPD and resorcinol - three of the most problematic chemicals in conventional hair colour.
The name CØR.color reflects the brand's belief that colour is at the core of everything O&M does, and that it should be delivered without compromise to health.
CØR.color is free from three key chemicals found in most professional colour systems - ammonia, PPD and resorcinol.
Ammonia causes harsh fumes, red eyes and scalp irritation and has been replaced with MEA. PPD (Paraphenylenediamine) is a known allergen that causes dermatitis and sensitisation and has been replaced withlow-level PTDS. Resorcinol is a colouring agent that is toxic to wildlife and the human immune system and has been replaced with 2-Methylresorcinol or 4-Chlororesorcinol - two kinder, less sensitising alternatives.
Each exclusion is intentional and backed by O&M's founding belief that hair colour is a health choice.

TECHNICAL PRODUCT FAQs
Molecular Blend Technology (MBT) is O&M's proprietary colour technology that pre-links base and reflect colour pigments before they enter the hair, allowing them to develop more effectively and evenly. Following years of research and extensive in-salon testing, MBT delivers superior colour coverage while minimising the risk of scalp irritation.
O&M has replaced ammonia inCØR.colorwith MEA (Monoethanolamine), an alkaline agent that performs the same function of opening the cuticle to allow colour penetration - without the harsh odour, red eyes or scalp irritation associated with ammonia. MEA mimics the role of ammonia while being significantly kinder to the colourist and client.
Like ammonia, MEA opens the hair cuticle to allow colour molecules to penetrate the cortex - but without producing the strong fumesandodour. For colourists and clients who are sensitive to ammonia or simply want a lower-chemical colour experience, MEA delivers equivalent colour performance with significantly reduced exposure to harsh chemicals.

ORIGINAL.pigment is ammonia-free, PPD-free and resorcinol-free, consistent with O&M's clean colour commitment.
CØR.color.rn (Resistant Naturals) is a specialised series within the CØR.color system engineered specifically for resistant grey and white hair. Compared to the standard Naturals range, CØR.color.rn features a higher alkaline pH to open the cuticle more effectively on resistant strands, and a higher pigment load for deeper colour penetration and saturation.
It is available in six shades from level 4.00 to 9.00, mixes 1:1 with developer (compared to the standard CØR.color ratio of 1:1.5), and is not intended to be intermixed with other shades in the range. Like all CØR.color products, it is free from ammonia, PPD and resorcinol.
CØR.color permanent colour is typically mixed at a 1:1.5 ratio for base and fashion shades.
CØR.color.rn Resistant Naturals uses a 1:1 ratio with developer. Always refer to the current O&M technical guidelines for full developer volume recommendations for each service.
CØR.color is free from PPD (Paraphenylenediamine) - one of the most common causes of colour-related allergic reactions. O&M has replaced PPD with PTDS (P-toluenediamine Sulfate) at low levels, which enables up to 50% of PPD-allergic stylists and clients to use the colour safely. We always recommend performing a skin allergy test 48 hours before any colour service, particularly for clients with known sensitivities.
CØR.color is also free from ammonia and resorcinol, making it one of the most considered professional colour systems available for sensitive clients.
RN stands for Resistant Naturals CØR.color.rn is a range of shades designed to deliver maximum coverage on resistant grey and white hair.
The colour features a higher alkaline pH (the higher the pH the greater the penetration as it opens the cuticle more) than CØR.color to improve penetration on resistant strands. It also contains a higher pigment dye-load for better penetration and saturation on hard-to-colour grey/white hair
